SDM Mazda, on Middlefield Road in Falkirk, has announced its sponsorship of local Scottish wrestler Ross Connelly. The 17-year old, from Cumbernauld, aspires to represent Scotland at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games and to be on the Great Britain team at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Connelly is a four time British Junior Wrestling Champion and five time Scottish Wrestling Champion having risen successfully through the ranks, bringing home numerous titles. Among a series of other high profile wins, Connelly’s achievements to date include winning gold at the 2014 Helsinki Open and silver at the 2014 Roubaix International Championship.
Following his success in representing Scotland and Great Britain at several international competitions, Connelly has now set his sights on the sporting pinnacle of any athlete’s career, the Olympic Games. In the build-up to the 2020 Olympic Games, Connelly have to attend training camps around the globe in preparation for the competition. With the support of SDM Mazda, the local champion will be one step closer to achieving his sporting ambition of representing Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ross Connelly, British freestyle wrestler, said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have the support of SDM Mazda. Wrestling has always been such an important part of my life, and my family’s life, even before I was born! My dad, David Connelly, also competed as a freestyle wrestler in the Commonwealth Championships. Representing Scotland at an international level, he also won a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1989 and 1994 Commonwealth Games. It’s a great ambition of mine to carry on my dad’s legacy as a competitive wrestler and to bring the Connelly name to the 2020 Olympic Games!”
