What is a Plug-in Hybrid?

Available in early 2021, the new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid delivers combined 265 PS of combined power output and an all-electric mode at the push of a button. Once the all-electric range is depleted, the full-parallel hybrid drive system takes over, which means it can run on its petrol engine or electric motor or both. Perfect car for commuting, school run and family trips.​

Electric Range, CO2 emissions

A plug-in Hybrid gives you choice and freedom. You’ll have the ability to complete your shorter journeys, like the daily school run, using its electric range, with zero emissions. And when you’re making a longer trip, or when the all electric mode is depleted, the hybrid system will automatically take over, giving you peace of mind.

In hybrid mode, the battery-powered electric motor works in tandem with its petrol engine to deliver improved fuel economy and lower emissions.​

Easy third row access
Slide the second row seats out of the way at the touch of a button for easy access to the third row. It’s a little feature that helps a lot. Image shown for illustrative purposes. The button on the UK specification is on the driver’s side of the car.​​

Rear occupant alert
For your peace of mind, the new SANTA FE uses ultrasonic sensors to monitor the rear seats. If the system detects movement in any of the rear seats after the driver has left the vehicle, the horn will sound and the lights will flash.

Head-up display

New hybrid powertrain for more efficiency and power

With its dynamic pairing of a turbocharged petrol direct injection and powerful battery-powered electric motor, the new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid is taking fuel efficiency to the next level. All without you having to charge a battery or change your driving habits. The hybrid switches seamlessly between the electric motor and conventional engine, sometimes utilising both at the same time.

Space saving new platform

The new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid is built on an entirely new platform designed with hybrids in mind. This allows lots of smart innovations – for example, the battery now sits under the passenger seats, providing a boost in efficiency with no impact on cabin or luggage space.

Powerful electric motor

The SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid’s 66.9 kW electric motor delivers high torque and efficiency while also providing impressive acceleration off the line.

Lithium-ion polymer battery

The 13.8 kWh high- power battery has superior charge/discharge characteristics, maximising both electric driving and energy storage.

New 6-speed automatic transmission

A newly developed 6-speed automatic transmission further enhances SANTA FE’s impressive efficiency credentials

Drive and terrain mode selector

Fine tune the new SANTA FE Hybrid’s driving characteristics to suit the road conditions – or to suit your mood. Sport Mode will enhance the car’s performance with modified throttle response, shift points and steering effort. Eco Mode delivers enhanced fuel efficiency with modified acceleration, shift points and air conditioning performance, while Comfort Mode delivers regular performance with good efficiency.

• Snow Mode
• Selecting Snow Mode will give you more control and minimise wheel slip when driving in snowy conditions. It does so by adjusting engine torque, gear shift pattern, traction control and all-wheel drive torque distribution.

• Sand Mode

• Sand Mode helps you achieve a smooth take off and controlled performance in soft and high-resistant road conditions by adjusting engine torque, gear shift pattern, traction control and all-wheel drive torque distribution.

• Mud Mode

• In Mud Mode, engine torque, gear shift pattern, traction control and all-wheel drive torque distribution are adjusted to suit slippery, high-resistant road conditions.

Start/Low speed

When starting or driving at low speed, the electricity stored in the battery powers the electric motor to accelerate the new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid.

Acceleration/Uphill

During heavy acceleration or driving uphill, the electric motor and petrol engine work in parallel to maximise acceleration and minimise fuel consumption.

Constant speed

When driving at a steady speed, power is provided by either the petrol engine or the electric motor – whichever is the most energy efficient in the given situation.

Deceleration/Downhill

The regenerative braking system charges the battery by using the electric motor to slow the car. When decelerating or driving downhill, the energy generated is stored in the battery.

Regenerative braking

When decelerating through braking or driving downhill, the electric motor operates as a generator and regenerates kinetic energy into electric energy, which is then stored in the battery.

Lots of ways to charge

Thanks to its innovative powertrain technology, charging your new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid can be quick and convenient. Choose from home installation options and the ever-increasing number of public charging stations when you’re out and about. When you’re plugged in at home, you can remotely schedule charging via your smartphone and Bluelink® app during low-demand hours for lower electricity rates.

Home wall box / AC charging station
Depending on your grid connection at home or the type of public charging station you have access to, you have several possibilities for charging. One of which is the a wall box or an AC charging station.​​​

ICCB cable for domestic power sockets
You can connect to a regular household power socket using the ICCB-cable (in-cable control box). SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid comes equipped with a 7.2 kW on-board charger, which converts AC power from the wall socket to DC power that charges the battery in the vehicle.​​

​

Charging cable for AC charging stations
You can connect the SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid to public AC charging points by cable. The same cable can also be used to connect to a home wall box.​​

Programmable charging

The new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid's advanced battery management system gives you complete control over when and how you charge. Pick a time that best fits your schedule and budget, and keep track of remaining charging time.​​

Charging time reservation

A few taps is all it takes to save money. Use the scheduled charging function to program start and stop charging times to make the most of off-peak electricity rates and wake up to a fully charged battery.

Charging limit

Set a Charging Limit (for example 50%) to take advantage of a fast-charging station in the city for the drive home – and then fully charge the battery at home while you’re sleep to take advantage of low electricity rates at night.

​Cutting-edge connectivity to go

The new SANTA FE Plug-in Hybrid provides advanced connectivity, like smartphone mirroring and Bluelink® Connected Car Services, which lets you control your car with your smartphone or your voice. You’ll also find a 10.25” touch screen navigation system with a free five year subscription to Hyundai’s LIVE Services.
